I specialize in the psychology of interpersonal communications. I have had the privilege of helping my clients cope with conflicts and misunderstandings, parenting, divorce, and other interpersonal issues. I also advise on the psychological aspects of the job interview, negotiations, and similar situations that involve human interaction. |
Even though I see some clients in my office in Waldwick, NJ, most of my consulting services are offered online via computer-to-computer video conferencing technology utilizing Skype and other similar services.
Im ever so grateful for having the opportunity to experience a career in several very different settings, which empowers me now with a unique ability to relate to my clients. Throughout my years, I have worked as professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY), performed scientific research for NASA, and provided quantitative financial modeling and consulting for Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and other Wall Street institutions.
My teaching experience armed me with an ability to understand the way my clients learn before I start to offer them my analysis, explanations, and advice.
At NASA, I observed stereotypically "nerdish" problems of people with high intellectual and educational level and less than perfect interpersonal skills.
My years of experience on Wall Street gave me insight into the distinctive pressures that people are facing within the corporate world.
As an immigrant from Russia, I know and understand that entering a foreign culture, mastering a new language, learning what people in this culture expect from you, and adjusting your own expectations is not easy. Subtle as the differences in communication patterns are, they can result in embarrassing and potentially detrimental outcomes, which I work to help my clients deal with and avoid. I also developed an effective approach to overcoming the language psychological barrier that prevents people with years of studying English from mastering it.
And now, as a small business owner and entrepreneur, I face the daily challenges that small business owners face interacting with their customers, providers, employees, representatives of other businesses, and the government.
My experience with job interview process is quite involved. At least a hundred times I have participated in the interview as either interviewer or interviewee, and I know the process from the both sides of the table. In addition, I facilitated a number of Interview Psychology Groups, where we videotaped the mock interviews with the participants and then analyzed and discussed the tape. This provided me with a chance to observe the process from the third vantage point - the outside.
Besides my private practice, I am an active member of the American Psychological Assiciation (APA), International Association for Relationship Research (IARR), National Communication Association (NCA), American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), International Society for Mental Health Online (ISMHO), Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG), National Association for Gifted Children (NADC), American Telemedicine Association (ATA), and National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
I have earned my Doctorate in Science at the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) and Masters of Social Work at Adelphi University (New York).
